ECE Senior of the Year talks college, career in education

Merritt Montgomery is the ECE program's senior of the year.

Congratulations to Merritt Montgomery for being named Early Childhood Education's Senior of the Year!

She earned college credits while at A.W. Beattie, will attend CCAC for at least one year and will transfer all of her credits to Slippery Rock or Clarion University to become a teacher and/or reading specialist.

Merritt was encouraged by her father to apply for A.W. Beattie's Early Childhood Education program after she toured the career center and felt a "spark."

"I love the kids - they’re my favorite part," Merritt said. "It’s given us a lot of opportunities to see what it would be like to be a teacher, but also a lot of related professions outside of being a teacher and education."

Merritt worked three to four days a week at Kiddie Tech through A.W. Beattie's Co-Op program and was also a student teacher at several elementary schools for a day at a time.

Instructor Mrs. Cari Ludwig said she knows Merritt will be successful in any path she chooses.

"I immediately connected with Miss Cari," Merrit said. "I just knew right away this was the best fit for me."
