Congrats to Deer Lakes' Haley Zalus who was named our Senior of the Year in our Dental Careers program!

Haley began working at GKG Ortho in her junior year and will continue to work there after graduation!

“I enjoyed meeting new people and learning essential skills that would help me progress in my career,” Haley said. “Also, I loved the staff at Beattie, especially Mrs. Gibson! They were always there to help, support and motivate to try to make all of us kids the best that we could be!”

Some of Haley’s favorite memories included learning how to execute teeth extractions on a cow head, the school-wide goose chase (it’s a game) and spending time with Mrs. Gibson.

“Mrs. Gibson was always there to push me and motivate me every single day,” Haley said. “She was always willing to help me any way that she could. I appreciate her drive and her love for teaching and her students. Not only did she teach me what I needed to know to work in my career field, but she also taught me how to be independent and just an all-around a better person. I am definitely going to miss all the staff, Every day, no matter what, they were there to greet us with smiling faces and a good morning.”

Haley will be a dental assistant at GKG Orthodontics.

“I have always had a passion for working with people, getting that one on one with someone, getting to know them and how you can help them,” Haley said. “Also, for some reason, I have always loved going to the dentist. Therefore, being a dental assistant seemed to be a pretty perfect fit!”

Haley is a Beattie Ambassador, in SkillsUSA, in the National Technical Honors Society at Beattie as well as the National Honor Society at Deer Lakes. She is also in Deer Lakes’ Best Buddies program, Student Council and Yearbook.”
