A.W. Beattie Career Center
Health and Safety Plan Update
February 27, 2022
Dear Beattie families, students, and staff,
On Friday February 25th, the CDC updated their guidance on masking for schools. This updated guidance is a three-tier model that accounts for the local strain on the health care system. Utilizing this model of high, medium, and low impact, the CDC is dropping its recommendation of universal masking in schools in areas where the impact is in the medium and low tiers.
A.W. Beattie Career Center will follow the revised CDC guidelines effective on Monday, February 28th as outlined in item #3 listed below that is part of our approved health and safety plan. Students and staff are not required to wear a mask.
The approved plan for the Career Center has three approaches to ensure our continuity of education:
- During levels of substantial and high spread of COVID-19 within Allegheny County all students will be required to wear a face mask and instructors will be required to wear a face mask or shield during the instructional day when inside the building.
- During a moderate level of transmission within the county all unvaccinated students and staff members will be required to follow the guidance in item #1. All other students and staff members will be encouraged to follow the same guidance.
- During a low level of COVID-19 designation in the county, students and staff will not be required to wear a mask or face shield. Students and staff members during this designation may still wear a face mask or shield if they wish.
Our plan has been effective in limiting the number of students and staff with COVID-19 exposure. As we move forward, we thank our families, students and staff for their understanding and hanging in there with us on this road. Additional information will be updated as necessary.
Thanks once again for your continued support.
Eric Heasley, Executive Director
